Geology graduate student Peter Schoen explains the landslide hazard potential from The Barrier, an unstable volcanic cliff near Squamish, British Columbia. The Barrier is an enormous lava dam retaining Garibaldi Lake in southwestern British Columbia. It formed when lava flows from Mount Price (Clinker Peak) flowed towards the Cheakamus River Valley but were impounded by glacial ice, forming a steep cliff when the glaciers receded.
