SOUTH PLAZA ISLAND, GALAPAGOS, ECUADOR - MARCH 2007: A lava gull takes flight during a dramatic sunrise on South Plaza Island in the Galapagos. While beautiful, the open landscape on this island is a vestige of many years of infestation by wild goats, which literally eat local flora to the ground. The goats have been eradicated from the island now, but a subsequent explosion in land iquana numbers now theatens the local cactus population. The iguanas eat the flower petals from the cacti, apparently leaving desert plants with no way to procreate. (Photo by Eric Rorer/Aurora)
